Dive China 2013
The 2013 Dive China show in Guangzhou, China will be held from 10 to 12 May next year. From all accounts it is going to be huge. It is the biggest dive expo in main-land China and will be held at the biggest exhibition hall in Asia – the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, in area B. Area B has an indoor exhibition area of 128 000 m2.
The show organisers estimate that of the estimated 60 million travellers each year, around 8% travel to dive. Of this, 1.5 million are from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Province in China. Dive travel accounts for some $20 billion annually, (according to the organisers) of which some $5 billion is spent in Southeast Asia and the surrounding area. This is predicted to rise at an annual rate of 30% over the next 5 years.
In terms of potential for marketing to divers, China is an untapped opportunity. Opportunities abound for dive training, whether as divers or instructors, and dive travel. Disposable income is on the rise in China and indications are that more Chinese are will to spend more for great diving experiences. Furthermore, dive sites are limited in China and will be under pressure as more Chinese learn to dive. Dive travel for Chinese citizens is therefore fast becoming an attraction.
The organisers are planning 400 booths covering a total area of 8 000 m2. Various pavilions will be set up for diving equipment, dive accessories, dive resorts, dive clubs, foreign trade for example.
During the show there will be an underwater photography competition, various dive films, forums and lectures, to name a few.
